WA Government contributes $60million to the Marble Bar Road upgrade project, which is now underway.
The upgrade on Marble Bar Road in Western Australia’s Pilbara region has started. The project is jointly funded by the Western Australian Government and Atlas Iron, with the government contributing $60 million to the project.
The project aims to transform 92 kms of the road into a two-lane sealed highway, enhancing safety and accessibility for remote Aboriginal communities. These improvements are also expected to boost the region’s economy by providing better connections to nearby mines.
BG&E Resources and Raubex Construction Pty Ltd were awarded the contracts for the first stage, (15km), of the construction.
Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel noted that the road is a lifeline for remote communities, providing access to food, supplies, and essential services. Sealing the road will help prevent long closures during floods and significantly reduce the cost of transporting goods by air during such times.
The project is a critical step in ensuring reliable infrastructure for the Pilbara region, benefiting both local residents and industries.
