WA Infrastructure News: Perth Airport to begin A$5bn Construction Works
Perth Airport in Australia has kicked off a A$5 billion (US$6.4 billion) capital investment project aimed at expanding its infrastructure to support Western Australia’s growing aviation industry needs. The project includes major developments, including the construction of two multi-story car parks, a new terminal, an expanded international terminal, the airport’s first-ever on-site hotel, and a new runway.
Jason Waters, CEO of Perth Airport, emphasized the importance of integrating new infrastructure with existing operations to ensure a seamless experience for passengers. He stated that the goal is to make sure that all future infrastructure developments are smoothly connected with the current airport operations. This will result in a number of construction projects commencing around the airport, particularly in and around the terminals.
The initial project to commence is the construction of the airport’s first multi-story car park. To facilitate this, many parking spaces in the T1 short-term parking area have been temporarily closed. However, the airport assures travellers that although some spaces may be located farther from the terminal, parking will still be available.
Waters also highlighted the convenience of the Airport Central Train Station, which offers direct access to Terminal 1 via a skybridge. Additionally, passengers can pre-book parking in long-term car parks for discounts and guaranteed spaces in the desired area.
In the 2024 financial year, Perth Airport served over 16 million passengers and recorded 156,756 aircraft movements. The airport expects these numbers to grow significantly over the next decade.
