Fortescue unveils plans for 5.4 GW project in Australia

The Multibillion-dollar Uaroo Renewable Energy Hub project is on the way as Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) filed the environmental documents with the West Australian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). The renewable energy hub is set to built near the coastal town of Onslaw and 170 km west of the Eliwana mine site. Plans for the energy hub are set to be released for public comment by the EPA. The project aims to construct and operate a renewable energy hub comprising an enormous 3.33GW solar farm and a 2.04 GW wind farm spread across approximately 10,000 hectares. Work starts on Metronet’s Ellenbrook train station in Western Australia

The proposed Ellenbrook train station on the Metronet Morley-Ellenbrook Line has kicked-off. The first stage of the project includes bulk earthworks, in-ground services and station footings installation, structural works, facades and interior. The new Ellenbrook Station, which is in the heart of the town center, aims to offer quick and easy transport services to over 46,000 residents in and around the suburb, which will reduce the public transport travel time by fifty percent. Track laying complete on METRONET Forrestfield-Airport Link

The last piece of track has been laid on the METRONET Forrestfield-Airport Link, a major milestone towards completion of the project, which is funded jointly by the State and Federal governments. More than 27,000 sleepers and 2,400 tonnes of Australian-made steel were used to install more than 16 kilometres of track from Bayswater Junction to High Wycombe Station. Installation of the overhead conductor rail (OCR) and overhead line equipment (OLE) is also ongoing. This will carry the 25 kilovolts needed to power the trains. WA mining and resources contributes $83 billion directly to Australian economy

Western Australia’s resources industries have contributed a direct $83 billion to the Australian economy in 2019-20 and has directly provided more than 94,000 full-time jobs. This is based on an analysis of 65 resources sector companies in the state. Chamber of Minerals Energy WA (CME) members were asked how much they contributed and where. Australia’s jobs market has staged a dramatic turnaround since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. From fears of mass unemployment, Australia is now facing a possible shortage of labour. For the first time since the mass lockdowns, unemployment has dropped below pre-pandemic levels, with an estimated 115,200 jobs created in May.
