$110m new Mandurah Estuary Bridge in WA, creates 500 local jobs as preferred builder is announced!

The duplication of the Mandurah Estuary Bridge, located south of Perth in Western Australia, is moving forward towards construction. Georgiou Group has been chosen as the preferred contractor to design and build the project. The $110 million project will create a second, two-lane bridge on the south side of the existing one. Additionally, a four-meter-wide shared path will be built to improve community connectivity and recreational access. A universally accessible fishing platform will also be provided. The construction of a brand-new Fitzroy River Bridge in Western Australia is going smoothly, as the first deck pieces are scheduled to be installed within the next month. In December 2022, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie caused major damage to the Fitzroy River Bridge, necessitating its reconstruction. The Fitzroy River Bridge Replacement project aims to construct a new two-lane bridge over the Fitzroy River, providing a pedestrian pathway, reconstructing bridge approaches, constructing flood and scour protection, and modifying utility services.   The Western Australian resources industry has achieved $246 billion in sales for 2022, a record for the state. On top of the billions recorded, the state delivered 117,970 full-time equivalent jobs in the mining industry, more jobs in the sector than ever for WA. The Western Australian Government said these records set underline its role as the driving force behind the national economy. 2022’s resources sales increased by $15 billion in comparison to 2021’s resources sales and WA’s exploration industry continued to grow in 2022 with a record-breaking expenditure of $2.54 billion. $42M Fitzroy River Bridge begins ahead of Easter, helping to create local jobs.

  Constructed with more than 10,000 tonnes of rock and with steel pipes, the first temporary Fitzroy River causeway with low-level crossing, a five metre-wide 200 metre-long, and single-lane rock, will be open to four-wheel-vehicles on April 3, 2023 at 10 am.   A second temporary crossing suitable for higher traffic volumes and larger vehicles that are expected over the upcoming dry season will soon be constructed and is anticipated to be operation in May 2023 if river conditions continue to recede.   Design work for the new Fitzroy River Bridge is progressing well. Construction on the causeway pedestrian and cyclist bridges project has started. The $100 million project, which features two cable-stayed bridges, providing a 6-metre-wide shared path linking Victoria Park foreshore at McCallum Park with Heirisson Island and Perth’s CBD at Point Fraser is part of the Perth City Deal. Western Australia’s unemployment rate is the lowest of the States at 3.1%

The Australian Bureau of Statistics labour force data shows that Western Australia’s unemployment rate fell to 3.1 per cent in August, the lowest of the States, and below the national rate of 3.5 per cent. A further 879 Western Australians found work in August, up 0.1 per cent. Over the year to August, employment has risen by around 70,000 new full-time positions, or 5 percent, the strongest in the nation. Major Perth Zoo upgrade underway as part of a $16.5 million construction program supporting approximately 380 jobs.

The Café and Function centre are the first projects to be delivered under the McGowan Government’s Perth Zoo Master Plan 2040 and are planned to be completed by mid-2023. The café will create a new eating and alfresco area adjacent to the zoo’s main lawn, with the new function centre set to provide a much-improved space for events, functions, seminars and weddings. Multibillion dollar Wind Farm planned for WA’s Mid West, estimated to create 14,500 jobs during construction.

The proposed Midwest Offshore Wind Farm will have up to 200 turbines and six substations within Commonwealth waters and will be constructed and operated off the coast of Kalbarri, 500km north of Perth. The project will be developed in phases. It is currently planned that construction would span 36 months and is targeted to start in 2028. The total capital expenditure is proposed to reach $8 billion USD which equates to more than $11.5 billion AUD.
