Fitzroy River Bridge reopens ahead of tourist high season – 6 months ahead of schedule

The new Fitzroy River Bridge has reopened in the remote Western Australia Kimberley region, six months ahead of schedule. The Kimberley region, devastated by floods following Tropical Cyclone Ellie in early 2023, has reopened a key arterial bridge along the Great Northern Highway, connecting West Kimberley to East Kimberley. The new two-lane Fitzroy River Bridge, which connects the popular tourism hotspots Broome and Kununurra, has been completed ahead of schedule and before the 2024 high season begins in the region. Western Australia’s Government shortlists proponents for High-Capacity Signalling system for the Perth urban rail network.

With Western Australia’s goal to upgrade its rail network, the government has shortlisted two proponents: Alstom Transport Australia & Downer EDI Works (ADJV) Siemens Mobility , Siemens Mobility GmbH and Wabtec Contril Systems (SafePerth) These proponents are to design, supply, build and maintain a High-Capacity Signalling (HCS) system for the Public Transport Authority. The HCS project aims to create a more modern, integrated, communications-based train control system, replacing the aging urban rail network control system in Perth. Major construction commences on $330m METRONET New Midland Station

Major construction has started on the METRONET New Midland Station project, a cutting-edge train station in the center of Midland, Western Australia, after development authority was granted last month. The modern three-platform station near Midland Town Centre would improve connectivity to Midland Gate Shopping Centre and Health Campus. Downer has announced its completed the sale of its $212 million Australian Transport Projects business to DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd. DT Infrastructure’s Australian Transport Projects business is responsible for delivering major construction services to mainly government, including design and construction of roads, rail, signalling, station works, bridges and more. The sale will see Downer’s business, people and capabilities transferred, including around 1000 staff and a forecast work in hand of approximately $2 billion nationally. Major milestone for WA’s EV fast charging network

Western Australia’s Electric Vehicle fast charging network has taken a major step forward with the McGowan Government awarding JET Charge the contract. This is part of the McGowan Government’s $43.5 million investment to boost EV infrastructure around WA. JET Charge will provide 98 EV chargers at 49 locations around the State, creating the World’s longest continuous EV fast-charging network.
