  The Western Australian resources industry has achieved $246 billion in sales for 2022, a record for the state. On top of the billions recorded, the state delivered 117,970 full-time equivalent jobs in the mining industry, more jobs in the sector than ever for WA. $125 million funding injection in the state budget helping to create more local jobs in Perth.

Together with a $125 million commitment announced by the federal government last year, the funding will provide for 130 new locally built electric buses, and upgrades to depots including charging infrastructure. Premier Mark McGowan described electric vehicles as “the future”. “Importantly, we will build these buses right here in Western Australia, creating local manufacturing jobs and supporting local business,” he said in a statement on Monday. 1.53 million people were employed in Western Australia during March, including the highest ever level of full-time employment.

New jobs data from the ABS for March 2023 show WA’s economy remains strong. A record 1.53 million Western Australians were employed in March, including the highest ever level of full-time employment. The strong result has been underpinned by women finding full-time employment growing by more than 10% over the past 12 months – a terrific result. Western Australia’s unemployment rate is the lowest of the States at 3.1%

The Australian Bureau of Statistics labour force data shows that Western Australia’s unemployment rate fell to 3.1 per cent in August, the lowest of the States, and below the national rate of 3.5 per cent. A further 879 Western Australians found work in August, up 0.1 per cent. Over the year to August, employment has risen by around 70,000 new full-time positions, or 5 percent, the strongest in the nation. ABS unemployment figures for September reveal WA’s lowest jobless rate since 2013

The West Australian jobs market is booming despite the ongoing pandemic, with the unemployment rate dropping to 4.1 per cent — a level not seen for eight years. Western Australia has been allocated a budget of $1.3 billion for major infrastructure projects. Prime Minister Scott Morrison stated that investments into infrastructure projects would make WA roads safer, improve public transport and reduce travel times while creating more than 4,000 direct and indirect jobs across WA.
