New Defence Precinct at Henderson Shipyard in WA set to drive $billions in investments and create thousands of jobs.

Australia’s defence capabilities are expected to get a boost through the construction of new landing craft for the Army and new general-purpose frigates for the Navy.

The initiative, which includes the necessary large vessel infrastructure, is made possible with the support of the Defence Precinct. These projects are seen as crucial for strengthening the Defence Force, enabling it to respond effectively to Australia’s complex strategic environment.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the significance of the initiative, calling it a “game changer” for Western Australia’s industry.

It is projected to create thousands of jobs for West Australians and drive billions of dollars in defense investments. Over the next 20 years, the investment will create 10,000 well-paid, high-skilled local jobs.

The Henderson Defence Precinct will also play a crucial role in the AUKUS alliance, as Australia builds the capacity to own, operate, and maintain conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines. Additionally, it will serve as the hub for maintenance and contingency docking for these submarines, ensuring operations adhere to nuclear safety, security, and regulatory requirements, consistent with Australia’s international obligations.
