The Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront (TBW) project in Western Australia has awarded a $69.2 million contract to WA Limestone Contracting and Italia Stone Group.

Under this contract, a 460-metre-long breakwater construction at Casuarina Boat Harbour and dredging will be done to prepare the foundation and clear the entrance channel.

This project aims to revitalize the harbour as a regional marine industry hub and community asset. The joint venture also plans to extend the Koombana Bay foreshore, potentially extending it for a future marina.

With a substantial amount of material transport involved, this is the largest coastal infrastructure contract awarded by the Department of Transport. During construction, efforts will be taken to minimize any disruption to harbor users and the community.

The State Government has invested $78.2 million on the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project, which includes these works as part of Stage 3.1. The Department of Transport (DoT), as the harbour manager and delivery agency, will work in conjunction with the South West Development Commission to build the new breakwater.

Bunbury’s potential as a coastal city and regional marine hub will allow this infrastructure to create sheltered waters, attract investment and support job creation, and establishing a marine industry hub.
